Companies have in the past decades changed from traditional manufacturing organizations into service organizations. For these service organizations information and competence have become an important resource. The traditional view on information is that an employee use and search for information to reduce uncertainty for their decision making. Even though information is strategically important for organizations, information is not valued in any way. Hence, this thesis aims to value information in terms of the utility it brings to the organization. The conclusion is that four factors are important when valuing information in terms of utility. These factors are quality, relevancy, accessibility and findability. By using the four factors the Digital Information Value (DIV) – index was created. The DIV-index can be used for calculating a before and after value for an implementation or for evaluate maintenance of a digital information tools.eng
