This bachelor thesis is studying the relationship between universal right, the sovereign state of law, and how and when it is right for a third party to act in a conflict or in war. The conflict in Bosnia during the 1990’s is a known case within the framework of humanitarian interventions and the interest and commitment from the outside world. Humanitarian intervention as such is a problematic and discussed area in the context of international relations. The problem in the discourse affects large and controversial areas of international peace, human rights, security and humanitarian desire and obligation to help others in need. It is a qualitative study, and the method used is semi-structured interviews. The study providesexperiences, thoughts and reflections in the field of humanitarian interventions and the respondents are present and former military employees of the Swedish armed forces that were a part of the UN- and NATO-led battalion of BA05 in Bosnia in 1995/96. The study shows how important it is to be precise about what kind of mandate that is behind the mission and when and how it is decided to intervene in another country. It is interpreted that the respondents in the interviews believes that it may be more important to care for the prosperity of the human being than the principle of sovereignty of the nation state.sv
