Vardagsmusik i skolundervisningen. En undersökning om att använda elevers musikval i undervisningen samt hur de använder IKT i sitt musiksökande.
Abstract
This thesis is about how to integrate students everyday music in a teaching situation at a music upper secondary
school and how these students uses information- and communication technology (ICT) when they search for
music they want to study. The study is based on the information from three in-depth interviews and ten
questionnaires. The information from the interviews and the questionnaires were compared and analyzed.
In our study we found that the relation between students everyday music and the school music is complex. If
students are allowed to choose which music they want to study does not mean that the teaching situation
automatically becomes a democratic process. The democratic teaching situation is rather based on the teaching
methods than which music is being studied. The main advantage of chosing ones own everyday music is the
motivational aspect while the main advantage of studying music chosen by the teacher is the broadening aspect
and the development of ones own identity.
In our study we also found that future music pedagogy should be based on an understanding for the students
everyday music, how they use ICT, and that their knowledge about music and ICT should be integrated in the
teaching situation and that the teachers would benefit from making use of the students experiences.
