DEN TORSKADE POLITIKEN? En kvalitativ studie på hur svenska yrkesfiskare ser på den europeiska fiskeripolitiken och utformningen av den
Nordström, Albert
Fisheries is a problem that doesn’t obey national borders and can therefore benefit from being
solved between countries instead of within them. Fisheries is a difficult issue for the EU since
it touches on issues as economy, culture, environment and social questions. A large part of the
previous research has portrayed fisheries as an economic issue, but more recent research has
suggested that fishing is as much a social matter as it is an economic one. The common
fisheries policy is one of the more questioned policies of the EU, yet there are only a few
articles exploring fishermen’s opinions of the CFP. The thesis therefore aims to examine both
large- and small-scale fishermen’s opinions on the CFP and the institutional model of it. This
is done through qualitative interviews with eight Swedish fishermen in order to establish their
opinion on the matters. The results show that both the small-scale and large-scale fishermen
have a negative view of the CFP and have low faith in both the EU and Swedish authority’s
will and ability to manage fisheries in a suitable and sustainable way but the reasons for their
dissatisfaction differ.

EUROSKEPTICISMENS DYNAMIK: SOCIAL KLASS OCH KORRUPTION En kvantitativ studie om korruptionens påverkan på euroskepticism i Central- och Östeuropa

This paper explores the impact of socioeconomic status and the perception of national
corruption on Euroscepticism in Central and Eastern Europe. Compared to other studies in this
field, this paper stands out by examining how different social groups are affected by the
perception of national corruption. Analyzing data from the Eurobarometer 97.2 conducted in
2022, this study reveals that higher social class is associated with a decreased level of
Euroscepticism which correlates with prior research findings. In addition, this paper notes a
positive correlation between a high level of perceived national corruption and increased
Euroscepticism, which contradicts previous explanatory theories. The distinctive contribution
of this paper lies in the exploration of moderation effects when considering the interaction
between social class and corruption perception. The findings suggest that the influence of social
class on Euroscepticism weakens when corruption acts as a moderator variable. Notably, this
paper suggests that the correlation weakens progressively with increasing affiliation to higher
social classes. Nonetheless, this paper does not uncover significant findings indicating that the
perception of national corruption significantly influences Euroscepticism across different social
classes, which therefore will require further research. This research not only contributes to our
understanding of the multifaceted factors shaping Euroscepticism in Central and Eastern
Europe, but also adds a unique perspective by delving into the dynamics between corruption
perception, social class categories and attitudes towards Euroscepticism.

ATT FÅ DE OINTRESSERADE ATT RÖSTA En kvantitativ analys av valkompassers påverkan på sambandet mellan politiskt intresse för EU och valdeltagande i Europaparlamentsval

The disparity in voter turnout between the Swedish European Parliament election and the
national election ranks among the most significant within the European Union. Prior research
suggests that the individuals responsible for this discrepancy, referred to as 'EU-only
abstainers,' are partly influenced by a lack of interest in EU affairs. One possible way to mitigate
this discrepancy is through the use of 'Voting Advice Applications' (VAAs) specifically
designed for the European Parliament elections. VAAs have the potential to mobilize people to
the polls by providing swift and straightforward access to political information about the
European elections. This study aims to analyze the impact of VAA-usage among EU-only
abstainers with low interest in EU politics during the Swedish European Parliament election in
2019. The results support earlier research findings regarding political interest in the EU and
turnout, as well as the mobilizing hypothesis of VAAs.

Standard explanations of voting behavior of people with immigrant background and anti immigrant sentiments would predict people with an immigrant background to not vote for
anti-immigration parties. However, this does not seem to be the case. This thesis examines if
people with an immigrant background vote for anti-immigrant parties if they have anti immigrant sentiment. With data from the 2022 VALU questionnaire from the Swedish
national election, results from linear and logistic regression show that people with an
immigrant background in Sweden who has anti-immigrant sentiments have a much higher
probability of voting for the anti-immigrant party in Sweden. The results also indicate that
people with immigrant background from non-European countries are less likely to vote for the
anti-immigration party, although this finding is less robust. This gives a unique new
contribution to prior research about immigrant’s voting behavior, which often have lacked
perspectives on immigrants that vote for anti-immigrant parties.
