Abstract: Bakgrund: Inom hörselvården används fonemiskt balanserade ordlistor i brus vid taltestet FB S/N +4.
Other description: Background: Phonemically balanced word lists are used when obtaining speech recognition scores in noise. These lists are designed for adults, but are still used for children. To properly obtain speech recognition scores in noise for children, normative data is needed to show what differences there are to be expected between children of different ages. Purpose: The main purpose is to obtain normative data for children in the ages of 7, 10 and 13 years for speech recognition scores in noise using words and to compare these with each other and with normative data of adults. A further purpose is to examine if there is any practice- or exhaustion effect to be seen when obtaining speech recognition scores in noise for children in the ages of 7, 10 and 13 years. Material: The participants were ten 7-year-olds, ten 10-year-olds and ten 13-year-olds. All children had hearing within the normal hearing range. Method: The method is quantitative. A hearing screening was done and speech recognition scores in noise were collected. Data were analysed through t-test with a significance level of 5 %. Results: Normative data for 7-year-olds was 67 %, for 10-year-olds 74 % and for 13-year-olds 76 %. There was only a significant difference between the first and second testing ear in the group of 13-year-olds. Discussion: The difference in the results between the age groups might be explained by the children’s language development, auditory processing ability and degree of concentration. Conclusion: The study shows higher speech recognition scores in noise with increased age. All age groups got significantly lower results compared to normative data for adults.
